Empathising with the Inanimate

Have you ever sympathised with smiley-faced food? A lost toy on the road? Or even a discarded bottle cap? Empathy in the modern day is arguably depleting, but through sharing memories and experiences we have tied to our possessions, we can not only better understand others but use these tactile items as representations of ourselves. We are made of the objects we surround ourselves with – the human body is made of space dust and glued together with apple juice cartons.
