ΘΑΥΜΑ
Charles Hanslip Ward
Based on a binary grid system, I have superimposed the word ‘shirt’ and the Hieroglyph ‘sndyt’ on top of each other. In this project I have explored the exchange that occurs in the processes of Cultural Reception, understanding ‘THAUMA’ (wonder, marvel) which to me resembles well the excited ignorance that plays a major role in the initial stages of visual reception. The garment consists of linen, cotton and beading, representing the overlap and seams that are an inevitable part of translation.
